Description
‘The object I want you to take to Peru is a Peruvian antique. I offer you one thousand dollars to deliver it safely.’
That was the way the mysterious invalid, Senor Berrien, introduced himself to Al Colby on the park bench in Santiago, Chile. That was also Colby’s introduction to one of the most challenging cases in his career. Needless to say, he quickly discovered that the ‘antique’ in question screened something a lot more valuable, something extremely dangerous to whomsoever possessed it.
Before he was through, before he learned the secret of the ‘Quipa’ (the Inca message-cord that started all the trouble), he’d become tangled with a murderously exciting problem, and also involved with some rather interesting local characters in this South American setting, including Ana Luz, who said she was Berrien’s nurse, and Julie the ‘gringa’ with the square-painted mouth.
