Description
Even East Anglia becomes too hot for Lovejoy, dodgy antique dealer, when he is forced to flee gangsters, bailiffs, police, bankruptcy. . .
He makes it to Hong Kong, but then things go horribly wrong and he is soon destitute. Wandering the alleys and markets of the colony, he glimpses one of the famous Jade Women, the trained beauties who figurehead the notorious Triads, but by then survival is all he cares about.
Antiques become his lifeline. He manages to contact a fellow passenger for assistance, only to see him knifed in Kowloon. On this occasion a garrulous gigolo gets Lovejoy out of trouble, but not before he has met a strangely ubiquitous lame beggar.
Lovejoy becomes enmeshed in the gigolo’s sordid lifestyle. The Triads also incorporate him in an antiques scam aimed at acquiring the vast American firm of Brookers Gelman. When he unwittingly causes the death of another innocent, Lovejoy decides to exact revenge by emulating the exploits of the greatest faker of the nineteenth century…
